Do Good, Feel Good, and Be Safe

This past Sunday in Los Angeles the rain took a break, providing me the opportunity to participate in a Stair Climbing event called the Fight For Air Climb sponsored by the American Lung Association.  I was an “elite” climber, choosing to climb the longer route of over 2500 stairs up and down the Los Angeles Coliseum.

Of course, climbing stairs is a great way to keep in shape.  By climbing with the American Lung Association, I was supporting people with lung disease who are fighting for every breath.  I was also stepping up for clean air across the country and in our community and, of course, I was doing something positive for myself.

As you can imagine, climbing that many stairs, which are of different heights, in a wet stadium could be a little tricky.  I was up for the challenge.  I held on to the handrails as much as I could.  This way, if I tripped, I knew I wouldn’t fall.  I also wore gloves that had gripping dots on the palm to prevent my grip from slipping on the wet rails.

It is good to do something different and it is good to be challenged.  It is also very important that we do so in a safe way.

Lastly, before the climb began, I walked around to see the various booths from the sponsoring organizations.  One had tags participants could wear that said I Climb For. . . I have a client whose wife has lung disease.  I proudly wore her name on my jacket.

Charity events are a good way to Do Good and Feel Good.  And you can do so safely.
